Who’s in for ice cream? Have you noticed the new ice creams flavors that celebrities have started lately? Ice cream played a huge part in the final challenge of the Celebrity Apprentice this past season, and of course my family had to run right out and try the new flavors.
Ben & Jerry’s seems to have started the trend of naming and creating ice cream flavors after celebrities. Stephen Colbert, Elton John, and Jerry Garcia have all had flavors named after or inspired by them.
Celebrity Apprentice Good & DeLish Flavors
If you’re a fan of Celebrity Apprentice, you know that (spoiler) Trace Adkins is the new “All-Star” winner, and also that ice cream was a part of the final challenge. Adkins and the other finalist, Penn Jillette, were tasked in creating a new flavor for Walgreens Good & DeLish Premium Brand Ice Cream.
The ice cream flavors were announced last week on the show, and naturally my family wanted to run out and try it the next day. They loved Jillette’s creation of “Vanilla & Chocolate Magic Swirtle” (a combination of “swirls” of chocolate and little candy “turtles”) the most, but they also felt that Adkins’ “Maple Macadamia Mash-Up” was “pretty good.”
Looks like my family’s reaction was equal to the rest of America. While Adkins won Celebrity Apprentice, Jillette received an additional $100,000 for his charity for having the most popular ice cream flavor.
Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night Snack
Who doesn’t love Jimmy Fallon? Our family tried his ice cream flavor just because we enjoy his humor. (How’s that for a celebrity’s marketing influence?)
Two years ago Ben & Jerry’s created “Late Night Snack” in celebration of Fallon’s second anniversary hosting Late Night. The ice cream remains a favorite in our household, and features these crazy-good potato chip “clusters” covered by chocolate and a caramel swirl all on a vanilla bean base.
Perhaps the best-known celebrity ice cream is Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia, which the company named after deceased Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia.
Cherry Garcia, like its namesake, seems to have a legendary following. Anyone from singles looking to console their dateless nights to families looking for a yummy treat have embraced the flavor, which is cherry ice cream, cherries, and fudge flakes.
My Own Flavor
With all the talk of special ice cream flavors created for people, I couldn’t help but wonder what it might be like if someone created a flavor for yours truly. I pondered this a while back and shared that vanilla and dark chocolate are favorite flavors of mine. I’ll add pistachio to that, and there you have it! A new ice cream flavor.
As far as the name, how about “Very Cherie” or even “Yes, You” after my latest poetry book. Too cheesy, you think? Perhaps I should leave the creation of a flavor to the folks at Ben & Jerry’s.
