Saving money does not mean doing without and the sooner people realize this is the case, the better. You can still eat and drink nice things, wear nice clothes and have plenty of treats, but still have money in the bank for when an unexpected expenditure arises. Finding out how to do this can start you on a path that you will wish you had started years ago.
Just Use Cash
It won’t be possible to pay cash for every single item you ever buy, but it makes a lot of sense when shopping on a weekly basis. It is so easy to use a credit card and as long as you know you limit, you can keep adding things you don’t need to the trolley. When shopping for clothes it will be so easy to buy both things you like rather than just the one, and odds are that the second one will not come out of the wardrobe very much. If you don’t have cash on you then you can’t make rushed purchases that you regret as soon as you get home. There is a slight deviation from the only using cash theme and that is when you are using a coupon. Whether it is a specific amount off a particular item in the supermarket or a voucher for a free item in a restaurant take advantage and still live the good life without bankrupting yourself.
Shop At Cheaper Stores
Whether it is food or clothes, there will always be shops that provide great products for less than the mainstream stores. Often you won’t notice any difference and if you do and can’t stand it, then you can always go back. The chances are there will be a happy medium and you will go back to some things, but also still buy the items you liked in the discount stores.
Others Ways To Cut Your Cloth
Once you have found that you are using the cheapest shops and taking advantage of all the offers you can find then you are down to the last few options. Think back to programs you have seen about people shopping in foreign markets and souks. Why would you not try to barter at home the way you would if you were abroad? The worst that can happen is that the assistant will say no, and the best is that you get the item you want for less than anyone else has paid.
It could be that you have family and friends that are in the same position as you, or even if they are not they are sympathetic to your attempts to save money. Why not try to barter or trade with them? It could be potatoes from your garden in return for tomatoes from theirs, or an evening’s baby sitting in return for them lending you a DVD and providing wine and nibbles for you to entertain friends at home. Once you get into savvy shopping you will find plenty more ways that you can live the life you want without having to go into debt for the rest of your life.
